The Coteaux

The valley as a horizon

The Coteaux estate is a 30-hectare viewpoint site nestled at an altitude of 200 m, offering views of the Lot Valley on the horizon. Thanks to its slope, the site offers numerous viewpoints, which you can discover from the terraces of our lodges.

As you explore the site, your gaze will be drawn to the horizon in search of the many windows: open, hidden, vertiginous, framed.

The Coteaux

and the revitalization of an agricultural plateau

Discover the rural landscapes and agricultural culture of Lot-et-Garonne as you explore the Coteaux plateau. Covering 7 hectares, the estate offers travelers a variety of experiences.

As soon as you enter the site, you will see vineyards planted with trellised vines, varieties that were historically cultivated on these hillsides throughout the 20th century. Between the rows, a few fruit hedges complete this space, reminiscent of joualles, a cultivation method widely used in the Bordeaux region in the 14th century.

Take our discovery trail to explore the recently planted fruit tree area: walnut, apple, fig, pear, and plum trees bask in the sun and intoxicate our travelers with their sweet scents.

Be sure to check out our insect hotels and watch the constant ballet of bees near our hives.

After a few laps in our natural swimming pool, let us guide you through our vegetable gardens. Herbs and vegetables bask in the sun here before ending up on your plate!

The Coteaux

and its plant-filled atmosphere

The appeal of the Coteaux estate lies in its many different plant environments, which you will enjoy contemplating or exploring during your stay in one of our lodges. Put on some good shoes and set off to explore these different worlds.

The undergrowth of the high plateau located near the reception building is a wooded area. It is composed of large oak trees and offers a true immersion in the forest: the atmosphere is cool, humid, dark, and smells of humus. This secluded, peaceful, secret forest atmosphere, conducive to contemplation and meditation, is accentuated by the relief and canopy of the wooded hillside, which block out light and views of the horizon.

The hillside woodland where the lodges are located faces south, allowing you to enjoy beautiful sunrises from your terrace or your bed! With its steep topography, it is home to a variety of tree species, including oak, ash, black locust, pine, walnut, hazelnut, and maple, which you will enjoy discovering and smelling. Sequences of deciduous and coniferous woods are arranged on the hillsides, creating a rich and contrasting landscape. The hillside woods are also a gathering place for wildlife, including numerous birds that won’t miss a crumb of your breakfast on the terrace…

The edges

located on the edge of the forest, the forest edges enjoy the protection and coolness of the trees while benefiting from sunshine. Dense and lush, they act as a visual filter between the woods and the meadows. As you walk through them, you will discover a delicate interface between two environments that form a rich ecological fringe ideal for observation: all plant strata are represented (perennials, herbaceous plants, bushes, fruit trees, shrubs, and trees).

The southern meadow

Continue your stroll and you will arrive at the southern meadow of the Coteaux estate, opening onto a large clearing in the forest landscape. It forms a large breathing space that provides warmth and tranquility. Welcoming and reassuring, it offers a wide open view that allows you to take in the site in 360 degrees. Its gentle, open terrain provides the deepest panoramic view of the Lot valley. Its soft, generous grassy surface invites you to take a break, sunbathe, and watch for any game that may appear. The immense spatial openness it creates in the landscape allows you to admire the sky both day and night. It’s the perfect spot for stargazing during your stay at Les Coteaux !

The Coteaux

and its unique locations

Several unique locations dot the Coteaux Lodges & Experiences estate. Can you find them ?

In the undergrowth of the hillside, mineral resurgences dot the site: observe the sparkle of the flint stones that compose them by revealing them to the light. Downstream from the wooded hillside, on the southeast side, an isolated cluster of maple trees creates a special feature. The tall trees form an incomplete circle around a large rock, a spot ideal for reading and observing.

You may also notice the presence of stone retaining walls that punctuate the hillside exploration trail and bear witness to these past practices and the importance of maintaining access.
